The publication Object Onder / Object Below was realized on the occasion of the Sanderses' gift to the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam of over hundred works of art in 2013 and the exhibition that followed in 2015. The publication, that has been developed in close collaboration with photographer Johannes Schwartz and graphic designer Julie Peeters, explores through photographs and texts the transformation that artworks undergo when they change context, from the intimacy of a private environment to the public realm of the museum. With an essay by Cornel Bierens, a poem by Maria Barnas and an interview with the collectors.
The publication Met Andere Ogen was realized on the occasion of an exhibition in the Teylers Museum, that ran from January until May 2012. In this exhibition works on paper from the collection of Pieter and Marieke Sanders were confronted with drawings from the Museum collection. All drawings in the exhibition are included in the book. With an introduction by Marieke Sanders.
The publication Highlighted: Contemporary Finnish Photography from the Collection of Pieter & Marieke Sanders was realized on the occasion of an exhibition in New Dakota, Amsterdam (Sept. 4 – Oct. 31, 2010). Over the past fifteen years, Finland has seen the emergence of a new generation photographers and video artists, known as The Helsinki School. Linking factor is their education at the University of Art and Design in Helsinki, an education with a great emphasis on the development of a personal conceptual approach. Pieter and Marieke Sanders were inspired by the new Finnish movement in photography already in an early phase, and they pursued this new development in the years that followed. This publication brings together for the first time this special part of their collection. With an essay by Maarten Bertheux.
The central themes of Northern Light: Nature Photography are the photographer’s vision of nature and how humas relate to nature. Topics include the cycles in nature, human interventions in nature, including the disturbance of ecological balance, and how the human condition is reflected in relation to nature. A major role in this book is played by circa sixty works of Finnish photographers from The Helsinki School, from the collection of Pieter and Marieke Sanders, gifted to Museum de Fundatie.
